Even though I was trained as a General surgeon, I became interested in Holistic Health and Preventive Medicine because of the prevalence of life threatening preventive illnesses on St. Croix.
After cutting off 'x' number of toes and legs in diabetic patients and inserting 'y' number of vascular access grafts in end stage diabetic and hypertensive patients who were now in renal failure, needing dialysis, and so on and so on, I decided that making money performing Surgery was great, but I really want to see my patients living healthy and productive lives. I want these patients to eat well, exercise and live free, instead of spending the majority of their time and money on medications, and doctor's waiting rooms. Current Medical therapy caters to a multi billion dollar drug and health care industry which has no interest in a healthy population. Their interest is in keeping people sick and dependent on drugs so stock values and profits can continually increase.
The KALIMA Center currently offers a yoga studio and classes. We also host workshops. For example we recently rented the studio to Shenarae who brought down a professional belly dancing instructor from Chicago under a VI Council of the Arts grant for a week end workshop. We also hosted Dr. Zoe Marae, from Boston who had a weekend workshop "Living in Effortless Flow". We will be hosting another workshop in August 4-5, 2007 with Jim Self, "Mastering Alchemy in the New Energies”.

We have a Swedish wet/dry sauna, and my offices were I see patients for General Surgery, and consultations in Holistic Health as it related to diet, exercise and lifestyle changes to control and heal diabetes, hypertension and other chronic medical conditions. Dr. Makayah Curry is my associate. She is a Naturopath and offers acupuncture, energy balancing, herbal remedies.
We acquired the property in 2000 and started extensive re-modelling. We added the two-story building that now houses the restaurant and yoga studio to transform an "L" shaped building to a 'U". We paved the courtyard, added the fountain, and a wrap around balcony to the second stories. It has been a multi staged project. We started with my office space. We then completed the yoga studio, next the sauna and showers, and finally the restaurant, which has been our greatest accomplishment as we have no prior experience in the food or restaurant business. The final two phases involve opening a retail space and starting a TV talk show featuring Holistic Living.
In terms of raw food, life begets life. At least 75% of the food we consume on a daily basis should be raw such as salads, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Once food is cooked we kill its vital essence including enzymes, and vitamins. Eating only dead food does not promote health and well being.
I really want to see my patients living healthy and productive lives
