COMIN' AGAIN

Greetings again blessed people. We are on to our second issue, building on the foundation laid with the first cornerstone. The response we are getting from the Nicholas Friday issue has shown the desire of the masses to see the Virgin Islands and Virgin Islanders on a larger scale. The talent and culture in these small islands is on an unfair and disproportionate scale than with other concentrated populations across the globe. It is not our fault, maybe it’s the water or maybe the sweet kenips (mid-summer, mmm..you done know). I mean; Neville Peter, Frederick Morton, Badjoe, Lesley Comissiong, these sons and daughters of the soil are icons in their own right. These past couple car shows on St. Croix prove we have the cutting-edge, urban design and performance auto sports scene on lock (BIG UP STREETSEEN.VI!!). Bands ‘cyan done’ from the foundation Xpress Band to the 2007 Road March Champions, the J.D.P.P. Jammers. When it comes to the Queens of the VI, I don’t think it needs any explanation. What I am trying to say is that we have a lot to be proud of as a people. I think it is an understatement to say that we are proud of Pressure. Being recognized on the world’s leading reggae compilation is not an easy feat for most Jamaicans. Dalyno Brown has done it in a short time and the world is taking notice.

Due to our American influence we were taught to look outside of ourselves for portraits of status in activism, entertainment, and general popular culture. This has been a help and a hindrance for our growth as a people. A help because it allowed us the resources needed to build a progressive and economically beneficial infrastructure (to some degree). Not recognizing the potential we pass everyday on the street because it is not on main stream media is the negative aspect to our situation.  Fortunately, in this high tech information age the means to compile data are readily available. Those positive resources discussed before can now be used to recognize our unquestionable and infinite potential.

CORE will be there to document and help put our people in the spotlight and we ask all other media outlets of these islands to push more for our own. I am not saying to take preference for Virgin Islanders over others, I am saying that we should recognize the talent we have and acknowledge it equally. This is a message is not just to our media outlets, it is to everyone living on or from these islands; even myself. We are all kings and queens in our own right, God blessed and inspirations to one another; that are at times taken for granted. In an effort to strive for the better, we intend to show to the world that we are baptized by these gracious Tradewinds, consecrated by that ‘Water Blue,’ and we are fashioning our place in history. Respect to the Empress Dara Monifah for the official word-sound, it cuts clear to the point I am trying to make. So, as we trod on you don’t have to worry, just know that as VI Massive you done large and...

CORE got you 'cause we..."Comin' Again"
