Real recognize real and Billy Blasta is as real as they come. Straight out of “The Ghettos” of
St. Thomas
Paul
M.
Pearson Gardens to be specific, Blasta’s foundation is hood so he’s determine to take it back to the streets.
Billy Blasta became empowered at the age of 17 after an act of violence left him paralyzed. Realizing how much of his brothers had fallen to the system guys like Uncle Roy, Fatty, Ali, Para, Big Soup and Solider he decided to do something positive with his second chance at life. He started the independent label Blaka Blaka Entertainment. His philosophy is “God gives us talents; I think it would be a disappointment to him for us to not use the blessings given”
When ask about his musical style he states that “its Street Music or what he calls Reality Rap. I live hip hop, dress hip hop and talk hip hop. When I rap I just tell my story.” His mix tape Resurrected & Demand to be Heard has songs like “My Point of View” which express his frustration about the plight that young men experience living in the poverty stricken hoods of the Virgin Islands. Though Billy Blasta doesn’t look at himself as a role model for youths he did have this to say “as a youth you should follow your own mind and heart because your friends are the ones causing your death; mow your lawn on a regular (a reference to a Jay-Z lyric) and stay in school.”
