LINCOLN WARD
CREATING A BUZZ

From Our Mar - Apr 2007 Issue

This self-promoted artist can be seen around the Virgin Islands ready for any music industry person or press reporter that crosses his path: wearing a Lincoln Ward T-Shirt; with anything from CDs and business cards in hand; to a backpack with a camera/camcorder in tote,.  I first met Lincoln Ward in St. Croix at Sunstroke Promotions’ Ballers Weekend; he was doing the typical Lincoln Ward thing, taking pictures with the acts as they came off stage, handing out CDs and networking like a pro.

Lincoln Ward and his love for music goes way back to him being classically trained on the piano at the very young age of eight.  Though he went on to major in Computer Science at the University of the Virgin Islands , it was there his passion and knack for producing beats developed. Working with All Good Entertainment at the time, Lincoln also was a vocalist for the R&B group B.E.S.T.    It wasn’t until January 2006 that Lincoln decided to pursue a solo singing career.

When as about his ability to succeed Lincoln confidently replied “I feel my edge is the fact that I’m independent:  I record, produce, write, mix and engineer all my stuff.”   CORE caught up with this one man show to find out what keeps him going.

What motivated you to do music?  Who keeps you focus?

I wanted to infect people with my music.  I always felt like I wanted the listeners of my music to get a sense of who I am.  As a friend of the family, Bernard “Inard” Green-Skelton also played a role in how focus I am today.  I was glad when he became my manager in August of 2006.  After his passing in September of that same year I became even more focus and motivated to achieve the goals we had set out for the video and my career as a whole.

Explain who helped bring the music industry to its current status in Tortola ?

Elvis White and Mark Christopher both have opened a lot of doors for a lot of us who are now starting.  The local music industry has come a long way, now it’s easier to get more plays on the radio.  I have a close relationship with artists like Grime-A, JASE, Harella as well as producers like Alton Bertie and Kamal Georges, so we all stick together and support each other.

As a producer which artists have you worked with?

Well I’ve worked with J.A.S.E., Grime-A and the Rock City Boyz.  I actually produced a song on the Rock City Boyz new album Wake the Neighbors called “Black Roses”.

You’ve been a one man show for so long, how does it feel to be the newest member of the Tri-Storm Family?

To me, Tri-Storm was the best moves I could make for my career.  With them I can see myself growing as an international artist with an international audience.

You can check out Lincoln Ward’s new video “Soaking Wet” off his Me and You debut solo album on Tempo.  With light and playful vocals over a tropical R&B accompanied by lots of beautiful scenery around the British Virgin Islands , this single has great potential.

I wanted the listeners of my music to get a sense of who I am
