X-TREME BAND
TO THE XTREME

From Our Jul - Aug 2007 Issue

The Xtreme Band has accomplished more in the seven years of its existence than most bands twice its age.  This exceptional group is composed of Dirk “Dirky” Walters, Harella Georges, Jevaughn “JJ” Parsons, Darwin “Chickdaddy” Scatliffe, Zolan “Zo” Browne.

As two time Road March Champions for the BVI August Festival, the Xtreme Band quickly rose as a focal group at local festival activities, night clubs events and stage shows.   The band’s large following is evident during jou’vert where for the pas six years the group has won the King of the Road title.  Apart from their heavy influence locally, one of the band’s original songs was featured on VP Records’ 2004 Soca Zone compilation CD.   This past September the band even represented the Virgin Islands at Carifesta IX in Trinidad and Tobago

Each year the band has produced quality music, releasing a total of seven albums to date with the eight (“British Invaders”) scheduled to drop in time for this year’s August Festival.     With a gamut of performances along side star acts like Sizzla, Ghost, Capleton, Allison Hinds, Machel Montano, Baby Cham and Jamesy P to name a few; the Xtreme Band is well on its way to becoming a force throughout the entire Caribbean.

CORE checked in with the group to find out the reason for Xtreme’s success.

CORE:  What sets Xtreme apart from the rest bands?

Dirky:    Our music is so different from most of the other bands around who sound so much alike.

We put that love and genuine interest in the art form; it’s all about making quality music.

CORE:  Your performances are fascinating.  What’s your secret?

Harella:  When I perform any one of my songs I try to put everything I have in them.

CORE:  You all seem to have fun on stage.  What’s it like to perform for such a large audience?

JJ:  It’s a great feeling to be on stage.  Its life for the two hours you’re on stage, nothing matters more than that moment.

CORE:  How would you like to see the Xtreme impact the local calypso scene?

Zo:  I hope our example encourages more musicians, more kids willing to pick up guitars and drum sets eager to play and compose good music.

CORE:  Why should people by Xtreme’s albums?

Chickdaddy:  I think people should buy the music because it is real VI music and it encourages us as young adults to do positive things and spread the VI love.

We put that love and genuine interest in the art form; it's all about making quality music.
